Research Internship, Genome Engineering

Recombia Biosciences is an early-stage synthetic biology startup founded by Stanford University scientists that is leveraging proprietary genome engineering technologies to optimize yeast to produce a number of different sustainable products. Our technologies enable the introduction of rationally-designed genetic modifications with unprecedented precision, efficiency, and throughput.

We are seeking hard-working, motivated, and scientifically curious part-time research interns to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an early-stage biotech startup in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ideal candidates will have some experience working in a lab, preferably with yeast (S. cerevisiae) or other microorganisms. Candidate will assist Recombia scientists and research associates and in the process, gain mentorship and learn cutting-edge genome editing, DNA sequencing, molecular cloning, and metabolic engineering techniques.

Highly-motivated and successful interns may be offered a full-time position at the end of the internship. This is a great opportunity for junior scientists to join an exciting startup from the ground up. The team currently includes six people, but it is expected to grow quickly.

This is a paid internship.

Well qualified candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or near completion and some lab experience
  • Background in yeast biology and standard molecular biology techniques
  • Experience with techniques such a PCR, DNA purification, molecular cloning, etc.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with a team
  • Strong desire to pursue a career in biotechnology

Skills you can learn:

  • PCR & Recombinant DNA Techniques
  • Yeast Genetics
  • CRISPR/Genome Editing
  • Laboratory Robotics
  • Plate Readers Assays
  • High Throughput Assays
  • Media Preparation
  • Metabolic Engineering Workflows
  • Benchling DNA editor and laboratory inventory management software

Interns will be part time employees working on average 20 hours a week.   We expect the internships to last 3 months but they can be extended or lead to full time employment.
